Lack of selfless, visionary leadership has been a plaguing and impeding factor in Africa's development to date. And so, we are committing to nip at the core of Africa's dilemma, and develop its future leaders today by giving them real life experience in leadership and government. Acting as a younger African Union, our goal is to host a Student Government of Africa Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa this fall, and engage African university students in discussion and debate over pertinent and prevalent issues facing the continent.

Goals

We as a group would like to see in attendance this fall 160 delegates from universities across Africa and representing all countries in Africa, in Johannesburg, South Africa, for the first Student Government of Africa Summit at the University of the Witwatersrand. Our goal is to have at least 15 chapters with 200 active members of SGA in different countries in Africa, serving their community, and encouraging political awareness and social responsibility among youth. We aim to host delegations of 3 students (one mock head-of-state, and 2 ministers) each from as many universities in Africa as possible, and hopefully get students to understand the responsibility, and expectations required from a true leader, and mobilize them to be active in leading change initiatives in their communities, so that when these future leaders do penetrate the political sphere, they will be ready, trustworthy, and key in breaking cycles of corruption, and leading nations into an era of sustained progress.

Plan

We plan to solicit financial backing from businesses, non-profit organizations, and universities. We would like the conference to be free for delegates excluding travel expenses. We plan to look further into getting airlines such as South African Airways to sponsor or subsidize flights for students coming specifically for the conference. We also plan to work with Dr. Nwanze at Howard University, and Dr. Agnes Leslie at the University of Florida to develop the conference curriculum. We will use our South Africa Country Director to help us in developing a team in South Africa to develop in-country logistics. We will also employ our Director of Affairs and Country Director to communicate with universities and encourage them to send 3 of their students to the summit.
