We Want to Hear From You

We are pleased to launch the first version of MyCommitment.org. Through this site we are hoping to inspire and grow a grassroots movement around public service, but we can't do that without YOU.

So please tell us what you think of this new project and share your suggestions for future updates.

very exciting - congrats!

very exciting - congrats! now i need to go figure out what my commitment will be

I think this project is

I think this project is right on.Having recently become disabled and seen first hand the suffering of the impoverished and more often the middle class suffering that comes with illness and the inability to work.I have been inspired to go and help others and at the same time better myself.I have enrolled again in school and hope to email you back shortly with my commitment 101.Thanks for the inspiration to get my behind moving again.

Congratulations on a

Congratulations on a wonderful idea for a website! This is long overdue and I wish I had thought of it myself.

I am the director of a non-profit agency that needs a boost and I wonder if you can help.

Our agency and many others in the country provide safe, supervised visitation between children and their non-custodial parent when issues of domestic violence, child abuse, substance abuse and mental illness requires it. We also provide a neutral custody transfer site for parents to exchange their children for visitation without having to come into contact with one another, eliminating the violent scenes that children are exposed to during high conflict divorce/custody matters.

This work has become my passion and those that have used our services are very grateful for the safety we provide to these children as well as their custodial parent.

There are so many needy charities out there who are doing great work with the help of exposure. This work needs a kickstart to bring these agencies to the forefront of people's minds when they are thinking of volunteering or giving financially. Our agency, as well as hundreds of others, have made their appearance in communities across the country in the last 10-15 years. However, I am hearing that more and more of these services are beginning to disappear which, tragically means that the children will not have the ability to continue their parent in a safe setting or lose contact with that parent all together.

Since the service offers visitation between a child and an abuser there is little interest in helping out. Interestingly enough, President Clinton has shown his commitment to this work as he was instrumental in starting the Safe Havens Grant through the Office of Violence Against Women. This grant has helped fund many agencies who are doing this work but there are many who don't receive government funding and rely heavily on community and grant support.
If you would be interested in learning more about Supervised Visitation go to www.svnetwork.net or contact me. 207-490-5847

I commend all the efforts to

I commend all the efforts to help schools in developing countries. Certainly, there is more need in those countries than in U.S.

However, we also have many problems with school system in U.S. State Governments are not able to provide adequate funding for all needs. Some schools do not have funding for educational programs or facilities that U.S.A. should have in its schools.

Warm Regards,

Indira

Having learned about the

Having learned about the project of My Commitment and enforced my opinion about Mr Clinton. I really know now that he cares making a more united world that tends its hands to those in need. I feel we are all in need, in need for a better comprehension of each other and also in need to bringing out our problems in order to share our experiences and how we can overcome our problems.

I watched the Martha Stewart

I watched the Martha Stewart Show with Bill Clinton this morning and was quite moved by this initiative, as I'm sure so many others were as well. It seems that people have really been craving both small and big ways to make a difference. If you continue to provide an excellent website resource for people who want to know where to start and what to do, both locally and globally, then mycommitment.org will be to givers what Google became to our information-crazed world. Keep up the amazing work you do and continue to spread the word to the masses.

The principal problem, is in

The principal problem, is in our country and the rest of the world, they are keepin harming the ecology, making bigger cars, trucks, they are getting rid off the green areas, to build homes, offices, stores, etc.
We need to find such in Brasil, to produce cars that can work with ethanol, recycling, all the toxic material, and biohazard products, from factories, chemicals, oil companies, etc.
If the Governments do not take care action soon.

In a few years we will be ereased from earth.

The problems such as energy

The problems such as energy and global warming are first engineering problems.

If you seriously want to deal with such problems, take it to the engineering community.

Dear President Clinton, You

Dear President Clinton,

You are missing one crucial area in your Global Initiative: The Arts.

I hope you will change that and start inviting the world's top artists (in all fields) to your gatherings. Artists always give to the world, and you will be amazed at what they can offer to this Initiative as well.

Best Wishes & Prayers for your Great Project,
Janine Canan MD

Dear SIR, It is really

Dear SIR,
It is really heartening to learn that cf is looking forward to see a better world through different initiatives around the world. We here in Orissa in India have been experincing chronic probelms like Droughts,Cyclones and Floods coupled with many other related disasters which result into deaths, migrations, hunger and deprivations leaving many a people to abjact poverty and vicious circles of deprivations. As you are aware, Orissa is the most poorest area in the world so far per capita income is concerned.
I as my commitment would like to work for an orphan School by initiatives of raising donations,The Orphan School in Bargarh in Orissa which has been working for street children since the Super-Cyclone 1999 is doing its best for their education, health, shelter and rehabilitation.Kindly getback with your suggestions and advice.

As usual, the Clinton

As usual, the Clinton Foundation is focused on how to make this world a better place. I think this is a great program and will energize us in a positive direction to help others. Well done!

I want to be able to provide

I want to be able to provide satellite internet access to every rural high school in Ghana so that they can have access to distance learning. I am willing to volunteer on the ground in Ghana. I believe education is the key to inspiring hope and aspirations into poor people. Because of poor or no infrastructure satellite dish and modem is the easiest internet access method. Ideally I wish I could get each US high school or donor group to "adopt" a high school in rural Ghana and provide a year subscription to satellite internet access. This will provide quality online education to millions of children remotely. Also don't throw away old laptops please, I am willing to collect them and ship them to the rural high schools as well. I choose Ghana because I know the terrain but will be willing to volunteer all across West Africa.

Mr. Clinton, I too watched

Mr. Clinton, I too watched Martha today and was very impressed with your initive. Let us also work on drugs for the elderly. My husband takes 15 pills a day to keep him alive. One pill alone is 100.oo per month, so he reaches his medicare gap quickly. It is time for the drug companies to help financially those who cannot. I have always been a believer in giving back to our community and am doing so now that I am retired.

Michael: It would be great

Michael:

It would be great if you would post your call to action as a commitment. It will be easier for site users to find your commitment using our search functions. Who knows-members of the MyCommitment.org community might be willing to help you with collecting computers and other learning materials for Ghana. You can post a commitment here.

What a great site and a

What a great site and a great program. My department is devoted to helping seniors (>70 years of age) negotiate the cancer treatment experience. The physicians I work with are world leaders in assessing the health of the older cancer patient and we are finding more and more that older patients CAN receive full cancer treatment and be cured! The opportunity to network with others who want to give will be so important to us as we raise funds to build our own Senior Assessment Center of Excellence to serve the entire State of Florida. We have funding for research from the NIH - but the government can't provide it all - we have to have a place to do the research as well. I applaud President Clinton for the wonderful work he is doing.

What a great idea ... I

What a great idea ... I sincerely hope that everyone has an opportunity to see what everyone else is willing to do, give & be so as to make their neighborhood, city, state, country and world a better place. Far too many people live totally within their "own little world" and never reach out to those around them who would benefit from their kind words, warm touch, smile or simple nod, and simple acts of human kindness. God Bless everyone who makes a commitment and sees it through!

I adopted my daughter when

I adopted my daughter when she was 7 months old from an impoversihed country (Ethiopia). She was starving at the time. I made a committment to take her life and change her life so that she would have an impact on the world. She knows where she came from and carrying this through her life will help her to make an impact on the world and Ethiopia. By giving the orphange children a chance at life I then give efforts to Ethiopia developing itself in the 21st century.
Touch a life, Change a Life........Change the World

What a terrific idea! I

What a terrific idea! I believe the world is at a crossroads at this time in our history with our environmental and other challenges. I think people are ready to step up and try to make changes. MyCommitment sounds like a great tool to get people started on the right path. Thank you!

Mr. Clinton, I am watching

Mr. Clinton, I am watching Martha Stewart Show at this moment and would like to help others. I live in Edmonds, WA and have dual citizenship (U.S. and Turkish). As a former labor union leader and human rights activist, I want to help naturalized U.S. citizens realize better opportunities in getting fair jobs related to their educational backgrounds. This would support diversity and help their children realize a better future. Today, many new comers including the engineers by training, medical doctors, and others with university degree suffer not benefiting from the investment on their educational training and licenses obtained overseas. I have a BSc. degree in Chemical Engineering with no experience because of moving to the U.S. as a fresh graduate in 2002 and not having a single opportunity to start as a junior engineer in the U.S. I believe there are many people share the same problems in this country. The U.S. would benefit from developing new solutions for naturalized families in the long run while providing fair opportunities for them.

Please do not forget the

Please do not forget the people in New Orleans who still are in need of help.

This is a great idea. I will

This is a great idea. I will share the project website address with all my friends. It is also a very stimulating tool. I felt immediately the need to reflect on what I have done and what I can do. Now in Step one "Tell us about you" of "Share your story" it would be nice to have in addition an entry for groups or associations. I sometimes do things as a member of my Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Valley, etc. We can be happy of what we accomplish as individuals but also as anonymous members of a group. Anyway thanks Mr. President and the staff at the Foundation!

To Michael for Ghana: I am

To Michael for Ghana:
I am also a "geek," and would like to see your goal obtained. I frequently obtain "old" computers and would be more than happy to donate them to your cause.

OUTSTANDING! More often

OUTSTANDING! More often than not, people seem to only ban together when there is some type of major disaster, whether it be imposed by mother nature or man-made. Often times, these great bans of relief are short lived. What a great way to get people to truly make a difference, and for the long haul! I commend President Clinton and the Clinton Foundation for taking the initiative to bring people together to make this world a better place, now and for the future.

Congratulations on a

Congratulations on a wonderful website and a wonderful global initiative

I was on the faculty of UBC when Bill Clinton visited Vancouver for a global Summit in the early nineties. I sent him as gift a book of mine regarding helping the poor third world villagers through both scientific and spiritual efforts. He responded with a thank you note. The latest version of that book "Mystic and the Blossoms"is available at the indicated homepage ( http://lulu.com/am) More about me can be learnt from my other blogs accesses through links at http://mech71.blogspot.com).

My work with the under previlidged and in spreading education from the lowest levels to the highest continues. Another book 'Magical alphabet" has been on public access TV in twenty states of the US ( as episode 1 of the reading lady by Bananaedproductions.com)

I shall visit your website again

When Bill Clinton was

When Bill Clinton was President, America was a better place. The poor had employment opportunities for the first time in their lives, crime was down, small business flourished, the economy of the United States grew by leaps and bound, the Internet was released into the public domain, America was respected by the world community, the environment was cared for and protected, and much more. Although his efforts as president have largely been destroyed over the last seven years, he is still trying to make America and the world a better place. BRAVO!

I wish there was a way Americans could get involved with a committed group of America citizens to really put an end to the following:

Starving American children
Corrupt American government officials
Katrina relief for victims
Illegal immigrants
Uninsured Americans
Uninsured children
Americans dying in Iraq for oil
Skyrocketing health insurance costs while hospitals all over the US build big, fancy buildings
Crooked Diebold electronic, paperless election machines
Crooked American corporations E.g. Enron, MCI World Com, Tyco
The proliferation of casinos
Etc

Is anyone interested in doing what others have failed to do?

i feel who very good about

i feel who very good about this im from senegal and i always want to do something about helping people who live in thoses village with realy nothing mean no hospital no school and more i want to get involve to go home and help with your help

Americans doing positive

Americans doing positive work worldwide - how wonderful! We have the ability and means to help our planet. Let's prove to others that we are not self-centered and uncaring. So far, I have focused on green issues, such as solar energy products (useful particularly in our sunshine state), but I must also do more. Thank you, President Clinton, for keeping this initiative alive! Great work!

I am very pleased with

I am very pleased with President Clinton's initiatives in trying to make the world a better place. I share the same views as the President. That is why I have set up an NGO called NeonCirc to help fight against HIV/AIDS. That is one of my commitments. I also consider refugees (I was once a refugee from Sierra Leone) and create awareness about unjust civil wars. Pease see link: http://goal.com/en/articolo.aspx?contenutoid=338731
I really want to do my best in making the world a better place, at least, saving just one life is really meaningful. I read President Clinton's blog about his trip to Zambia, Africa and I was thrilled. Thank you President Clinton for your contributions in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

Elimination of cars from the

Elimination of cars from the world's cities -- especially New York City -- and substantial industrial design of hybrid human-electric transport and transit to meet develop world requirements will greatly mitigate one of the major sources of human-caused climate change.

Volkswagen spent $400 million designing its latest "Beetle". A serious design effort on this scale for hybrid human-electric transport and transit systems would go a long way towards replacing automobiles as the preferred means of local transport with immediate economic, live-saving, and quality of life benefits.

I watched Martha today and I

I watched Martha today and I wa very moved. As a 65 year old woman who lost her job this year, after being on short term disability for the max time frame - I am reminded daily of the things that I can no longer do, due to my worn out body. I also have this burning desire to get involved with something that will make me be needed to someone again. As my own grown children are doing very well with their own careers and families I do not want to become a burdon to them, but a help to someone with a need for a very compassionate person in their lives that could make a difference. The one area that has been weighing hardest on my heart is all the reports about Autistic Children and the problems that parents of these children face. Perhaps with this new websight I will be able to be of some kind of help in this field or something else that I had not even thought of or been aware of yet. Thankyou Mr. Clinton for prooving you "still care"

Great initiative!! But from

Great initiative!! But from Pres Clinton, what else but great things. My wife and I started our own humble 'give back' program a few years ago for the extremely poor (>$1/day) in Guyana, SA and are happy that we are moving in the same direction as such great minds to break the cycle of poverty for a few families.
Don't necessarily need financial help (always welcome) but really need exposure within our own community. Any ideas?
There are many of my US based countrymen with enough resources to get involved but need to get organized.

Great thought Janine! I

Great thought Janine! I would love to be included in the Initiative. I am a sculptor; I have been designing prototypes for major corporations for 30 years, mostly consumer products. I believe that since we live in a country where people are always wanting more "stuff" my job is to find out why more companies can't use fair trade or donate back portions of the profits to organizations? A team of us have written a book, created characters and are working on prototypes that will do that... The next step is to find companies that are willing to do just that. Produce great products from the designs we have BUT also be willing to use fair trade or at least give portions back to a cause! We as a country and as individuals owe it to the world to DO SOMETHING! A famous pastor once said something that has forever stayed forefront in my mind, " God has given us all they we need on this planet, we just have a distribution problem, getting the right things into the right hands...” Like the Doc to Dock program etc. We have the ability to show the world that America does care and if we are going to continue buying more "stuff" then let it at least benefit others as well! It starts with an idea, it grows when people are added and it becomes an endless body of water, one drop at a time... Watch as we make a difference in this world, one drop at a time! Jump in! Thank you again for thinking about us artists! www.cherylfraserdesigns.com

I believe one way to cut

I believe one way to cut down on vehicle exhaust contamination, is to cut down on school bussing by letting kids wslk to neighborhood schools instead bussing them past their neighborhood school to a school miles away. I know bussing is supposed to be for racial balance, supposidly so minorities could get a better education. A better education for all races begins and ends in the home. If parants do not have a desire to have their children do well in school, no amount of bussing will correct the problem, teachers alone cannot do the job. Walking doesn't hurt anyone, I walked from 2 to 4 miles all during my time in elementary school, and if I did not have my home work and lessons ready the "board of education", was applied to my backside. Did that harm my physce? Course not, but the disclipine duting that time served me well from then to now.
Thanks for a forum thats allows we experienced oldsters a chance to add our voices. G.C.R.

You've given me hope Mr.

You've given me hope Mr. President!!
I have been waiting for the time when someone would really wake up America and teach us how to become less self-indulgent and see how closely we are all connected. If we, as a nation feel empowered to become Global Citizens, we will no longer be able to ignore how our use of resources inmpacts other countries.

This is an excellent idea.

This is an excellent idea. After some scandals and misuse of certain charity funds, people like me will have an opportunity to contribute to a cause we want to help.

I helped people for many

I helped people for many years NOT with money ONLY with food, prescription medication, clothing. IN MORE CASES then not, I found out that: The inability to study and work was a long, long, history of DRUG ABUSE 8 out of 10 people, the other 2 where heavily involved in alcohol abuse !! I QUIT for ever ! Bitter taste in my mouth for ever HOW STUPID I WAS !

Mr. President, My commitment

Mr. President, My commitment starts from the time I wake up in the morning to the time I go to sleep at night, and my quest will not end till the day I die and hopefully someone else will carry on the torch.
My commitment is for peace and harmony amongst my fellow brothers and sisters in the house of the World. I am commited to ending the evil cycle of Conflict, hate, mis-trust and mis-understanding. I am hopeful that one day in my lifetime we can destroy all weapons of human destruction and instead provide tools and knowledge for building a better World and providing cross spectrum of learning and understanding.
I am in favor of ending conflicts and hate by means of discusion across a forum table rather from the turet of a M1A1 Abrams tank. I am in favor of teaching and learning and openning opportunities to all of the World and helping those to become self reliant rather than reliance on others.
I am in favor of a clean planet, a clean means of power generation of operating our worlds power machinary and transportation modes. I am in favor of education for all as well as higher education open to all, and a quality education and not a state runned education or academic atmosphere which can be limited upon political view point or censored because of context by a corrupt political or religious ferver, my view is a open mind will open the door to a true free society; and by resricting learning your restricting a society. I am a firm believer in equality and Democracy; but Democracy has to be taught, not sent as a hand written message tied to the barrel of a gun.
Democracy is a belief not a subject matter and was established by the ancient Athenian Greeks whom were academics and philosophers and help revolutionize our World through freedom; yet in today's society we have forgotten the true sense and essense of Demcracy and in my opinion, the belief has become a commodity along side the various other institutions that support Democracy, I believe all people are created equal around the World, and it is my quest to insure that True Democracy shall never be corrupted or deminished and that the current form of Democracy our society practices receives an excellent house cleaning through peaceful means, and that true Democracy be returned as an updated and viable form of freedom to be taught to the World.
Mr. President, we cannot and must not continue on the current course we a traveling through time on, because this will only lead to ruin and a negative belief system. Mr. President I look upon you as my mentor and the True leader of the Free World, and it is through your intative and the challenge to your fellow World family that I am positive we will see great strides in helping me as well as others whom strive to achieve the same goals of World peace and harmony.
May your God of your devotion bless you, and always be with you, may the wind always be at your back and your toils in life never to difficult.
Thank you.

Brian A. Morgan

I think President Bill

I think President Bill Clinton's idea is excellent!
That the volunteers beyond nationality gather and cooperate with their various kinds of ability to help the people who suffer from the poverty and diseases in the third world will grow into the worldwide solidarity to keep peace in the world and prevent the terrorism. I will also participate in this project with my studies about the third world. I hope my studies will contribute to the effective policy making to rescue the third world people from their severe situation. I admire President Bill Clinton's lasting effort for peace in the world since his tenure of office.

Dear Mr. President, I am

Dear Mr. President,

I am starting by thanking for your commitment and hard work to make our world a better place. You are inspiring me everyday as a model of leadership. My commitment is to find a way to go back to my country and help the poor in the village get more access to education and a better healthcare and be able to compete in this new era.
The solutions that provide the big institution such as the World Bank and the Monetary Fund are not applicable to our African countries because they don't take in account our values and our culture. These programs try to change our habits then we can become more "westernize". The big institutions need to see our development from the eyes of the poor and not from the eyes of the rich. We won’t be able to develop our countries even with billions dollars pouring everyday in Africa. Please Mr. President I want you to join me to declare "Poverty" as a crime.
We as a citizen of the world must commit to fight poverty as we are fighting all the other diseases. As long as the western countries don’t allow themselves to look at the poor from the inside but from the outside they will miss the point and will always fail to win over poverty.
Please Mr. President your leadership can lift Africa and I hope that I can meet you then I can achieve my dreams to open The Bill Clinton School of Leadership not only in Senegal but thru Africa. The Bill Clinton School Of Leadership will teach programs such as:

• The impact of corruption in the economy of developing country
• Leadership: The benefit in sharing power
• Leadership: Democracy embracing Local Culture
• Poverty: The impact of Small Business in Remote Area
• Energy: The use of Solar as Alternative Power for the Poor
• New Technology: Linking the poor village to the World via the net
• Etc…

I am willing to fight for the poor because I am one of them and the first step to fight poverty is to acknowledge his existence in our daily life.

Mr. President, leadership is all what we need in Africa. I want to raise $750.000 to start The Bill Clinton School of Leadership in Senegal and I already have the land available.

Thank you for being Our Commander in Chief with your Global Initiative

We as a "world" have many

We as a "world" have many more options available then we are generally told. Ignorance is not "bliss", it's oppression. Just the wasted breath in claiming that we are bound to fossil fuels for electricity is an obscene lie. Look here st this DOD website. http://dodfuelcell.cecer.army.mil/pr_070606.html Plainly spoken, this is the answer to fossil fuels and the obscenely claimed "Energy Crisis".

Also, accepting lobby-money is no better then selling the American people into slavery, in fact there's no difference at all.

To whom much is given, much

To whom much is given, much is owed is an idiom often heard in America though it has been shown that the most given is by those like yourself who have much familiarity with those of little means or resources through their childhood years.

The desire for others not to suffer may be the motivation of such persons, and a noble, and honorable one it is. As such it is fitting that you make it your initiative to continue to remind people of the difference it makes in the world, a commendable effort in a world in which too often far too many appear to be forgotten and deprived of the Christian charity we all claim to believe in.

Together with such positive marketing, negative marketing to prevent the impression that as humans we are invincible to bad products, bad choices, or irresponsible ones is necessary to produce a world of social conscience and social responsibility. Perhaps that will help to prevent people from falling through the cracks of negligence and despair.

Congratulations on your newest of undertakings that fits your ideals and aspirations. Like Midas, everyone hopes it will "rub off" to produce the better world we all hope for.

Mr. Clinton, as always,

Mr. Clinton, as always, building new global political standards, that will probably picture 21st Century way to change traditional political actions, aided by technology to provide global participation. I'm in the sout of Brazil, working to improve science and technology education, with educational medias and technology, and I hope I can someday spread this works as a way to really build better conditions of life. Thank you, Mr. Clinton. Maria Isabel Timm

Michael, I saw your posting

Michael,
I saw your posting when I was posting my commitment. Right now, I am in the process of selling my possessions, and I will be moving to Ghana in June of 2008. My goal is to provide students with more than just a basic education – I want to help them develop the knowledge, skills, and abilities to enter into the global arena fully aware of the prospects and problems of the world. To do this, computers and internet access is essential. I hope we can work together to fulfill our commitments.

Often you have to reach out

Often you have to reach out to the community with an unique and fun fund raising event that brings the whole community together as well as raising awareness. We believe we have done this with "Build It For The Children". We decided to Build a home and auction it off for the local Child Advocacy Centers (www.builditforthechildren.org). We encouraged active public participation by having the public vote on all of the finishes to be incorporated into the home as it was being built. The business's were encouraged to donate product because of the exposure of the website and the chance to see which of there products the public preferred. It was a win win situation because the businesses could take the money out of their much larger "marketing" budget rather then their often small "charitable contributions" budget. With our 3rd annual charity home we have managed to raise a total of over $350,000 to help keep these charities alive and raise the public awareness (their other fund raising events have seen a substantial increase as well!).

All you need is Love and

All you need is Love and this is the place to share it, watch it grow and never let it die. What we do for ourself dies with us and what we do for others lives on forever.

Dear Sir, I was selected on

Dear Sir, I was selected on a special assignment during your visit to my country at the 1996 Asian-Pacific Economic Conference (APEC) and was very thankful for that opportunity to serve you with your group when you came to my country. Now, I am here in the United States. I have had wonderful opportunities like getting a good job and earning; meeting different people; keeping in touch with friends whom I have worked with in the past years most of them are instrumental in helping me get to where I am now. And my life had been a great adventure so far. At the end of this month of October 31st after working for over 8 years in a company of my choice I might not be able to continue my employment with them due to change in company ownership and management. Your program have inspired me and others I have shared what you have started here. If I end up unemployed later on I would like to offer my services to anyone who are part of your program who are willing to take me as a volunteer while I am still looking for another job, hopefully. Volunteering is a big part of my life and this is how I started before getting hired in the first place. By doing a volunteer work for over two years until a great opportunity came and started my employment serving with the US military and civilian personnel in my country for over 18 years. It was a great rewarding experience! I am not about to give up yet. We shall keep in touch with all of your latest news and activities and continue helping in anyways we can in our community here where I started. Thank you very much, you are truly a wonderful inspiration. God bless you always!!!
