Clinton Announces MyCommmitment.org: 'Everyone Who's Watching Can Participate'

This morning, President Clinton opened the third annual Clinton Global Initiative meeting by announcing that people not at the meeting in New York will be able to participate and make commitments on the new site MyCommitment.org.

From his address:

First, just about everybody in the room believes our common humanity is more important than our interesting differences. I think this simple issue is at the root of most of the world's conflicts. [...]

The second thing that brings us all together is that we seem to accept our shared responsibility for correcting, as much as we can, the current challenges of the world, and passing along a better world to our children.

The third is, we actually believe we can do it. We believe we can make a difference.

Watch it:

Last year, as Clinton noted, "there are a lot of people who can't fit in this room, or can't afford to come, who agree with us." Last year, without any publicity, 50,000 tuned in to the webcast and hundreds more made commitments. This year, it's even easier to get involved at MyCommitment.org.

Since CGI launched in 2005, members have made over 600 commitments that will benefit over 1,000 organizations in more than 100 countries. Approximately 34% are global in nature (affecting three or more regions), 20% are in Africa, 11% in Asia, 8% in the Middle East and 8% in North America. Another 5% of commitments are in Latin America and the Caribbean and 4% in Europe.

A few other bloggers are here covering the conference as well. Here are a few highlights:
